ARTIST STATEMENT:
The Custom Card Art Series is an exploration of the space between fine art and handmade craft. In these works, I bring together the immediacy and expressive color of my Impressionist approach with the directness, symbolism, and material honesty of folk art. Working on plywood rather than a traditional canvas allows the material itself to become part of the conversation. I build each composition through layers of acrylic paint, allowing color, texture, gesture, and surface to accumulate. The process is physical and intuitive—less about reproducing an image and more about allowing the work to evolve through the act of making.
Framing is not an afterthought. I hand-build each frame as an extension of the artwork, creating a relationship between the painted surface and the structure that surrounds it. The frame becomes another layer of the piece, further blurring the distinction between object, painting, and functional craft. This series is rooted in the belief that art can exist simultaneously as painting and object—as something carefully considered, but also deeply handmade. Each work carries the marks of its construction and the individuality of the artist's hand. There are no reproductions within the series. Every piece is conceived, painted, constructed, and framed as a singular work. Each is a true 1 of 1
